Sunlight is converted to heat in the solar collector array. These collectors are vacuum insulated so virtually none of the heat collected is lost. The heat is moved to a highly insulated storage tank by a non-toxic anti-freeze solution.  When the weather isn't cooperating, back up heat from your boiler or an electric heating element ensures that your comfort is not interrupted.
